Music For Airports

In what may be one of our most memorable shows yet, Collins and I are going to play JFK airport. Jet Blue is kicking off the opening of its new terminal with a series of concerts through November 25th.  What has four thumbs, two acoustic guitars, and a bevy of songs to unleash this Friday???  Dave and Collins!

If you want to check out a mention in, oh, I don't know, The New York Times (!!!!!!!!), the program is described here.

The catch: it's all happening inside security, so unless you're flying, you're not going to hear our dulcet tones.  The counter-catch: we'll be keeping you updated on concert happenings via Twitter, as well as a post-show recap right here, so stay tuned.  We'll let you know how JFK's green room is.

xo,

David

July NYC Dates Announced!

American Princes are preparing for another extended stay in NYC this month upcoming--very apropos after getting love from both Brooklyn Vegan and The New York Times last week.  Thus, we have three excellent shows we're excited to announce.

First, on Tuesday July 14th we'll return to our favorite venue at which to play early in Manhattan: The Mercury Lounge.  We'll be going on at 7pm, so I hope you will all be there to drink on an empty stomach.  Dinner can wait.  As Dave often says, we make good apps.

Don't worry Brooklyn. Even though we've made a couple of trips to the city recently and neglected your borough, that business is Collins' home.  So, we couldn't come back yet again without playing in the lion's den: Williamsburg.  On Friday July 17th we'll be appearing at Union Pool (the den of dens?).  And, we're very excited to be playing there with our good friends--an excellent band--The Weight.  Lemme tell y'all, we go way back.

Finally, on Tuesday July 28th we'll be back at the best little room in the Lower East Side: Pianos. We'll go on there at 10PM sharp, and, as always, there will be hang time afterwards at the upstairs lounge.  Yes, that does mean we will once again try to consume all the brown stuff in the bar.  Therefore, we need your help, lest we want to be giving Matt a cab ride to the hospital again.  We're kidding, of course.  Matt could out-drink David Lee Roth.  But if he did happen to need hospitalization, there's a chance Diamond Dave would be the ambulance driver.  We know you know what we're talking about.  Point is, don't miss it.

36 Chambers of Roo-Tang

Here's an inaugural, catch-you-up-to-our-latest-shenanigans Bonnaroo post.  In brief: the shows have completely rocked so far.  Rolling Stone called us a quartet from Lexington, KY and David's dad said that this was "off the hizzle" (text to follow).  Matt hung out with John Oliver and Rob Riggle from The Daily Show (picture to follow).  Collins went backstage with Phoenix and Public Enemy (intra-band acrimony to follow).  Will donned a pith helmet (adventure to follow).  Luke did an astounding hippie dance in between the Beastie Boys and Phish, only to be caught, mid-dance, by a dude who couldn't stop telling him what a sweet band he had (narration to follow).  All told, this has been an incredible weekend.  You guys are in for some treats as soon as we gather our wits about us.

Bonnaroo Contest Winner!

We're happy to announce that we've chosen a winner for our Bonnaroo ticket giveaway contest. There were a lot of great submissions. Some we had to eliminate due to excessive use of profanity. Some were nixed because it didn't seem at all clear what the person actually wished for us to put on the fan.

We received some nice pictures of one person singing onstage with Solomon Burke. We also got an offer from one fan--a business proposal really--to help him transfer $17.3 million from the Bank of China - Hong Kong to "your country." We thought that might make a nice winner, actually, but we weren't sure that Mr. Lee could arrange transportation to Bonnaroo.

One submission suggested that we tie-dye the paper fans and print "do you smell patchouli?" on it. I think it would have been even better if we could actually pour patchouli oil on them. But no one wants to take a 6 hour van ride with that.

Another of our favorite submissions was made by someone who got busted by their boss while photoshopping pictures of us together with the artist Prince. Here's what the boss had to say: "What would you do if you were me, and you found one of your new grad students avoiding work to look at pictures of Prince?"  We would say in earnest, "I'd give that man a promotion."

We chose our winner from one of the design-based submissions.  We really loved a lot of the slogans and the catchphrases that people suggested.  And there were several compelling designs.  But, when it came down to it, we all thought that our winner's was far and away the best.  That's why we're happy to announce that the winner of the 2009 American Princes Bonnaroo Ticket Giveaway is Henson Flye for his lovely "Playful American Horses" design.  Feast your eyes upon his fantastic submission:
